artist dress

This morning, my darling friend Christina and I went thrifting at a couple of stores in Glendale.  Some days one just hits the jackpot.  Today was one of those days.  The first store we hit (I think it was the Disabled American Veterans shop) had dozens of these huge t's for a dollar each.  I only snagged two, but tomorrow I'll be dragging the husband with me to buy as many as he'll let me!  The grey stripe is made from the sleeves of another t that cost $.49.

Tis a bit too sheer to be worn in public, so I'm using the rest of the giant grey t to make a sewn-in underskirt.  Once the little man is soundly asleep (he's asleep right now, but not soundly!)  that'll get sewn in.

Don't let the picture fool you, I'm actually incredibly happy!

homemade baby wipes

okay, baby wipes aren't expensive.  but they do tend to have a lot of ominous-sounding ingredients.  so, using this tutorial, i made my own.  we bought an 8-pack of bounty paper towels, and each roll makes two very full containers of wipes.  i'm thinking that the whole package of pt's will last 6 months to a year.  so... a year's worth of wipes for about ten dollars?  i like it.

hello (HI) quilt

this is the first original quilt i've designed.  it's for our friends matt and anne-carolyn, who are expecting a baby boy on july 19th, which was my baby's due date last year!  i pieced it before they knew the baby's sex, so it's a little heavy on the pinks but i think it's still pretty gender neutral.  the backing fabric is a really gorgeous kelly green.

it's my first machine-quilted piece.  i used fusible batting because i was short on time and because i don't have a free-motion foot... thought i did, but when i actually took time to look at the package, turns out it's a darning foot, which isn't the same at all.  i think it turned out pretty well regardless.
